Lucy Tedder Rice

Lucy Tedder Rice, 84, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. A private funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 15 , 2021, at Union Grove Christian Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Scott Kidd and Rev. Garry Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The service will be live streamed on Ridge Funeral Home's official Facebook page. Born October 12, 1936, in Randolph Co., NC, Mrs. Rice was the daughter of the late Fred Lee Tedder and Thelma Allen Tedder. After 42 years, she retired from Luck's Inc., the only job she ever had. She received an Associate degree in business from Randolph Technical Institute. She devoted her time and energy to her community. In her early adult years she served as a 4-H leader and later by volunteering at Randolph Hospital for 22 years. She worked the gift shop with her husband, Floyd, and crocheted baby caps for the newborns. For her efforts, she received the The President's Call to Service Award and the Governor's Award for Volunteer Service. Lucy was a member of Union Grove Christian Church where she was the choir director for many years. She was also the leader of the Cross Road Village Choir. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her daughter, Davena Rice; brothers, Phillip Raymond Tedder, Paul Smith Tedder, Boyd Resal Tedder; and sister, Carrie Lee Tedder Hayes. Surviving are her husband, Floyd M. Rice of the home; daughter, Nancy Rice Stephens and husband Gilbert of Cullowhee, NC; brother, Randy Lee Tedder and wife Karan of Asheboro; granddaughter, Ivy Corrine Stephens of Asheville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rice will lie in state from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cross Road Retirement Village, 1302 Old Cox Road, Asheboro, NC 27205; Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203; or to Union Grove Christian Church, Cemetery Fund, 3985 Old NC Hwy 13, Asheboro, NC 27205.
