Mrs. Frances Lucille Batts Craddock, 92, of Asheboro, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at her residence, after a prolonged period of declining health caused by Alzheimer's disease. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Montlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Kenneth Buckingham officiating. Lucille was born September 30, 1919, in Wake Co., NC. She was the youngest and last surviving of nine children born into the family of the late James Fitzhugh Batts and Florence Crocker Batts. Lucille graduated from Cary High School, where she fell in love with Dabney "Dab"� Scott Craddock, Jr, and they were married January 16, 1937, in Cheraw, SC. They raised four children together, first living in Cary, NC, until 1950, then moved to Hamlet, NC, where they were part of the community for over 53 years until they moved in 2006 into an apartment at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro, NC. As housewife, Lucille supported her husband's railroad engineer career with the Seaboard Coastline. Lucille and "Dab"� were active member of First United Methodist Church in Hamlet, and Lucille was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. As mother, Lucille was active in supporting her children's school, sports and cultural activities. Lucille survived her daughter and first-born, Barbara Lucille Wersal, and her son and third child, Michael Wayne Craddock. Mrs. Craddock, in addition to her husband of 75 years, is survived by her first son, Dabney Scott Craddock, III, and his wife, Marlene, of Steinwended, Germany, and her youngest son, James Lee Craddock and his wife, Melinda, of Asheboro, NC. Surviving also are nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
