Loyd Clayton Craven, 91, of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro, NC.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Richland Baptist Church, with Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Craven was born in Randolph Co., NC, on April 15, 1933, the son of the late Glen Craven and Vertie Craven. He retired from Energizer after 32 years of service. Mr. Craven was a graduate of Ramseur High School, class of 1951. Mr. Craven bravely served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a radio operator with the Heavy Motor Company 147th at Camp Polk. Mr. Craven was also a member of the Farmer Lions Club. He had a passion for woodworking and farming which brought him joy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Craven was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Craven, Elbert Craven; grandchildren, Brian Davis and Tori Russell.
Mr. Craven is survived by his wife, Fayetta Craven; children, Ann Gilliland of Seagrove, Deborah Willett of Franklinville, Mark Craven of Asheboro; stepchildren, Keith Miller of Pinehurst, Gary Paschal of Asheboro, Terri Lynn Miller Sweney of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jason Gilliland of Illinois, Jonathan Coleman of Franklinville; three step grandchildren; great grandchildren, Cody Russell, Andrew Gilliland, Kayden Russell, Wyatt Gilliland, Willow Coleman, Zelda Coleman; great-great grandchildren, Oaklynn Russell, and Callie Russell.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
