Thelma Louise "Sister" Sykes Jones, 89, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at West Bend United Methodist Church with Rev. Kari Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Born October 28, 1927 in Randolph County, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Clarence and Blanche Varner Sykes. She was a member of West Bend United Methodist Church and was retired from Stanley Black & Decker. Mrs. Jones volunteered with the Randolph County Board of Elections working at the polls. She enjoyed photography, traveling and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Marvin "Tom" Jones; sister, Helen Sykes; and brothers, Odell, Harold and Bill Sykes. Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Tommie Best and husband, Stephen of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Carol Petty, Peggy Scott and husband, Buddy and Marie Caldwell, all of Asheboro; brother, Kenneth Sykes and wife, Andrea of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Betty Sykes of Asheboro; and grandchildren, Nick Best and Madison Best, both of Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Saturday, prior to the service at West Bend United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Cross Road Retirement Community, 1302 Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, NC 27205 or West Bend United Methodist Church, 1080 Albemarle Rd., Asheboro, NC 27205. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of Cross Road Retirement Community and Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home for the care given to Louise.
