Leona Callicutt Overton

Mrs. Leona Callicutt Overton, 85, of Asheboro, NC, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Randolph Hospice House. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Lindsey and Rev. J. Alan Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A native of Montgomery County, NC, Mrs. Overton was born May 3, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Dossie Stanback Callicutt and Fannie Ester Sanders Callicutt. She had worked for Stedman Corporation / Sara Lee for 32 years. She sang with her husband and friends in the bluegrass gospel group, "The Country Echoes"�, for 40 years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Overton was preceded in death by her daughter, Ester Frances Overton, brothers, Lacy Callicutt, Bill Callicutt, and sister, Orna Saunders Mrs. Overton is survived by her husband of 67 years, Walter Overton, of the home; daughters, Doris Icenhour and husband, Ronald, of Cosby, TN, Mae York and husband, Larry, of Staley, NC; brothers, J. P. Callicutt, Burt Callicutt, both of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Tammy White and husband, Doug, of Asheboro, NC, Tony York and wife, Melissa, of Liberty, NC; great grandchildren, Hayley White, Hannah White, Emily York, Andy York, Nicholas York. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
