Elmer Leon Yow, 80, of Asheboro, died Friday, November 27 at his home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020. at Mountain View Independent Methodist Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Clint Kearns officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Leon was born on May 6, 1940, in Randolph County, NC. He was retired from Fleetwood Homes and he served in the US Navy. He coached baseball and basketball for over 40 years for Asheboro City Parks and Recreation. He even had a local baseball field named in his honor. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Yow; mother, Evie Louise Foster Yow Saunders, stepmother, Mary Yow; and sisters, Brenda Maness and Diane Causey. Surviving are his wife, Patsy "Pat" Spivey Yow of the home; sons, David Leon Morrison of South Carolina, Jeff Yow of Asheboro; daughters, Michele Thompson of Denton, Sherrie Trotter and husband Rodney of Asheboro; sister, Mary Louise Walker and husband Doug of Greensboro; grandchildren, Joshua Thompson, Cecily Thompson, Chris Thompson, Shane Trotter, Cameron Trotter, Kathryn Trotter; and great granddaughter, Sierra Thompson. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the service at the church.
