Lawrence Augustus Cox

Mr. Lawrence Augustus Cox passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at the age of 98, at Maple Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, September 4, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Bumby and Pastor Pat Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Lawrence was born in Big Bend, California, October 5, 1915. He was the oldest of eight children born to Augustus and Jessie (Ross) Cox. Lawrence served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a truck driver for over 40 years and retired from Hemingway. Lawrence and his beautiful wife, Edna, ran Long Beach Family Campground in North Carolina and UHS Campground in Virginia. His favorite activity was fishing. He loved to do almost anything that involved the outdoors and also enjoyed building things. Lawrence had an awesome sense of humor and always had a smile. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Grace (Parsons) Cox. Lawrence is survived by seven children, Charlotte Mae (Cox) Allison, of Franklinville, NC, Jacqueline Jean (Cox) Kelly, of Nashville, TN, Lawrence Andrew Cox, Jr., of Hayward, CA, Edward William Cox and wife, Linda Cox, of Indianapolis, IN, Marvin Daniel Cox, of Hamilton, MT, Carol C. (Cox) Allred and husband, Gurney M. Allred, of Franklinville, Donald A. Cox and wife, Cheryl Cox, of Liberty. Lawrence was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of Carol Allred.
