Larkin Pierce Luther, 95, of Asheboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at his home surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, with Rev. Thurman Williams and Rev. Joe Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born in Randolph County, NC on September 10, 1920, Mr. Luther was the son of the late James Lee Luther and Alma Viola Strider Luther. He retired from Union Carbide and then worked at Asheboro Sox, Wells Hosiery and K-Mart. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Luther also served in the US Army during World War II. He was a hard worker and a compassionate man who loved everybody. He especially liked to mow and garden. He planted a garden every year until this year. In addition to his parents, Mr. Luther was preceded in death by his brother, Weldon Luther and his sisters, Shaye Latham and Daphne Hurley. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Alice Williams Luther, of the home, daughters, Kathy L. Farlow and husband, Daryl, of Asheboro, Karen L. Cooley and husband, Ted,of Randleman; granddaughter, Jasmine Powers; and special niece, Rachel Callicutt, of Troy. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
