Kenneth Cecil Small, 71, of Asheboro, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at Clapps Convalescent Home. Cecil was born May 16, 1948, in Randolph Co., the son of the late Joe Lloyd Small and Gertrude Irene Snider Small. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School and Nashville Auto-Diesel College in Nashville, TN. Cecil owned and operated Westside Body Shop for more than 40 years. For several years he and his son, Ken, enjoyed racing their cars at Caraway Speedway on weekends. He was an avid scuba diver that took him and many friends to beautiful and adventurous destinations throughout the world. Spending time at his house in Holden Beach was a favorite place to scuba dive and fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ken Small and brother-in-law, Craig Branson. Cecil is survived by his sister, Brenda Branson; nephew, Shane Spoon; and granddaughter, Brittany S. Sawyer. Due to restrictions on group gatherings, services will be private at Ridge Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 2020, with Rev. Jeff Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Special thanks to his good friend, Tony Ingold, and to his caregiver, Susan Blackwood, for the wonderful care and support. Memorials may be made to charities of the donors choice.
