Kenneth Ares

Kenneth George Ares, 91, of Franklinville, died Saturday, March 26, 2016 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. No services are scheduled. Born April 3, 1924 in Carlsbad, NM, Mr. Ares was born the son of the late Calvin Thomas Ares and Mae Dean Campbell Ares. His family moved to El Paso Texas when he was a small child. Mr. Ares served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He attended college at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he earned his masters degree in physics and math and a minor in computer engineering. Mr. Ares was employed by El Paso Natural Gas for 30 years, he retired in 1982 and moved to North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Ares; and a grandchild, Shannon Murphy. Mr. Ares is survived by his wife, Martha Freeman Ares of the home; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ares of Santa Fe, NM; sister, Ann Rye of El Paso, TX; stepdaughters, Cathy Evers Bell, Debbie Evers McPherson, Cindy Evers Draughn; grandchildren, Melanie Boling, Crystal Bell, Leslie Hockett, Steven Draughn, Seth Kenneth, Angela Knestrick; great-grandchildren, Katie, Justin, Alex, Zane, Nathan, Eli, Jarred, Dylan, Mark, Ashleyn, Tory and Amber Hailey Murphy, who was raised by Ken and Martha.
