Kathy Susan Layne Davis, 76, of Asheboro, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Alpine Health and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2026, at Sunset Avenue Church of God with Pastor Boyd Byerly officiating.
Kathy was born on October 13, 1949, in Rockingham County, NC, the daughter of the late James Layne and Kate Baughn Layne. Kathy had retired from being a rural postal carrier in Asheboro and Climax. She became friends with many of the people on her routes. Kathy loved to play bridge. She played with bridge groups in Asheboro and had a standing Friday night game at her home. Kathy loved to read and was a member of a local book club at the library. Kathy's greatest quality was her kindness and faithfulness to the friends in her life. When she was younger, she ministered the love of Jesus to many, many singles in the church (First Assembly in Asheboro). Her house was the gathering place and her door was always open. She accepted everyone. Kathy found the value in each person. Kathy had such a free spirit. For example, she would just take off on a trip without a plan or a care.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her son, Joey Davis; sisters, Mildred Helms and Linda Vernon.
Kathy is survived by her son, Andrew Davis; brother, James "Bud" Layne and wife Jianxiu Ye; many nieces and nephews, and her puppy dog, Lilly.
The family would like to thank all the caretakers who cared for Kathy during her stay at home and at Alpine Health and Rehabilitation for their kind and professional care during her time at their facility.
Memorials may be made to Sunset Avenue Church of God, 900 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC 27203.
