Mr. Julian Bennett "Dude" Staley, 98, of Asheboro, NC, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. A native of Montgomery County, NC, Mr. Staley was born May 23, 1915. He was the son of the late John Marvin Staley and Ella Freeman Staley. Daddy was a hard worker, working at a sawmill until he retired. He loved to fish, read, gardening and working in his flowers. He loved all his children and his family. He was the last surviving member of his family, being preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle Lucas Staley, brothers, Lonnie Freeman, David Freeman, Charlie Staley, Bud Staley, sisters, Lizzie Miller and Polly Neese, grandson, Johnny Staley, and step grandson, Joe Hines. Mr. Staley is survived by his daughters, Janet Hunt (Raeford), of Asheboro, NC, Jacky Cox (Willie), of Ramseur, NC, June Hines (Gene), of Asheboro, NC; sons, J. C. Staley (Georgia), of Asheboro, NC, Buddy Staley (Janie), of Baconton, GA; 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; special nephew, Alex Freeman, of Mt Gilead, NC, who was raised with him as a brother. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of J. C. Staley. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, PO Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204. The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregiver, Viola Freeman, and Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home for all their care and love shown to Daddy and our family.
