Joyce Antoinette Mills Gibson, 89, of Greensboro, died November 12, 2023, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Greensboro.
A graveside service will be held at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2023, with Rev. Dave Cash officiating. Rev. Cash is Pastor of First E & R United Church of Christ in Asheboro, where she was a member.
Born in Spencer, NC, on June 21, 1934, Joyce was the daughter of the late John O. Mills and Ethel B. Mills. Joyce worked as a nurse for more than 27 years for Pediatrician, Dr. E. B. Cannon in Asheboro. Joyce cared for many children over the years and considered them all to be her own. Joyce loved golf and played it for many years. Nothing made her happier than a cold beer after 18 holes. And everyone knew of Joyce’s love for North Carolina State University and her “Wolfpack”. She lovingly tolerated her Carolina, Duke, and Clemson friends.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Gibson, who also passed on November 12 in 2000 and her brother, John Mills, Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Karen Patterson and husband Tom of Greensboro; her granddogs, Skylar and Becca; grandchildren, Tracy Patterson Harvey of Winston Salem, Adrienne Patterson Hicks, her husband James and their daughter Meredith of Mt. Airy.
Joyce moved to Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Greensboro in August of 2018. There, the staff and residents became her friends and family. It is there that she met all of the wonderful dogs of Pet Partners of North Carolina. They visited on a regular basis, even during Covid, when window visits became the norm.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff, both past and present, of Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Greensboro, Pet Partners of North Carolina and Amedisys Hospice.
Memorials may be made to Karen Collins, North Carolina Pet Partners, 3004 Crosby Court, Summerfield, NC 27358.
