Joseph William Reece, 95, of Asheboro was promoted to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Wake Forest Baptist Health, High Point Medical Center after a brief illness. Joe served as a pastoral minister for more than 62 years serving Friends congregations in Indiana, Ohio, California, Tennessee and North Carolina. Prior to his years in ministry, he served in the United States Army during World War II in the Panama Theater of operations. He was a member of Back Creek Friends Meeting. Known for his bright smile and infectious laugh, Joe brought joy to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruthanna James Reece. Surviving are his son, Jon Reece and wife Dee of Edenton, NC; daughters, Rebecca Gregson and husband Clayton of Lake Waccamaw, NC, Carolyn Hill and husband David of Friendsville, TN, Martha Coleman and husband Rick of Siler City, NC; 4 grandchildren: Carrie Colson and husband Tracy, Joseph Reece and wife Melanie, Katie Beeler and husband Travis, and Lindsay Hill; 6 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Service of memorial and celebration of life will be held at Back Creek Friends Meeting on Sunday afternoon, July 21, 2019. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Back Creek Friends Cemetery.
