Mr. Joseph Henry Lucas, 90, of Asheboro, NC, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Jeff Garner and the Rev. Darrell Rabon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors to be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Lucas was born March 12, 1921. He was the son of the late Sylvester Lucas and Louella Russell Lucas. Mr. Lucas was a member of Sawyersville Wesleyan Church where he served on the board and was a Sunday school teacher. He was a builder and brick mason, a member of the Gideons International, and raised and sold Feist dogs. Mr. Lucas served in the US Army during World War II. Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife, Jewel Brown Lucas, of the home; sons, Michael Lucas and wife, Emily, of Goldsboro, NC, Tommy Lucas and wife, Sue, of Asheboro, NC; daughters, Shirley Taylor and husband, Russell, Wanda Ingold and husband, Howard, Susie James and husband, Terry, all of Asheboro, NC; brother, David Lucas, of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Amy Devaughn and husband, Darrin, of Palestine, WV, John Lucas and wife, Lisa, of Rocky Mount, NC, Lynette Pate and husband, Rusty, of High Point, NC, Matthew Taylor and wife, Allison, of High Point, NC, Aaron Beane and wife, Andrea, of Charlotte, NC, Luke Beane, of Greensboro, NC, Chris James, of Asheboro, NC, Chad James, and wife, Miranda, of Asheboro, NC; and nine great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday, March 25, 2011, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
