Joseph Long

Joseph Lee "Joe" Long, 89, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Randolph Health in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Crestview Wesleyan Church, Asheboro. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Johnson. A private burial will be held at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro. A native of Randolph Co., NC, Mr. Long was born October 6, 1929, the son of the late Elisha T. Long, Sr., and Mary Gallimore Long. He was retired from North Asheboro Construction and attended Crestview Wesleyan Church. He loved his Lord and family, and was a loving husband, father and friend. He lived by "The Golden Rule." Joe enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and loved his work. He was an excellent wood worker and enjoyed building birdhouses and models of bridges including the Pisgah covered bridge. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Long, daughters, Janie Long and Kathy Hunt, and brothers, Lacy Long, J.C. Long, and Elisha T. Long, Jr. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Hunt Webster and husband, Jim, of Asheboro; son-in-law, Rick Reeves, of Colfax; sister, Mary Louis Steedman, of GA; brother, Algie Long and wife, Edna, of Ramseur; extended family, Tim Webster and wife, Tina and their children, Haley and Ashley; Chris Webster and wife, Jenny and their children, Dylan, Peyton, Dane; Stephanie Reeves, Matthew Reeves; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018. at Ridge Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Susan and Jim Webster.
