Mr. Joseph Leo Freeman, 82, of Asheboro, NC, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at High Point Regional Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Drew McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Guilford County, NC, Mr. Freeman was born January 13, 1932. He was the son of the late Mitchell Martin Freeman and Bessie Ada Lewis Freeman. He was retired from the City of Asheboro and the owner of Freeman Lock & Key. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Freeman, sister, Ethel Allred Morgan, and stepson, Bruce Kennedy. Mr. Freeman is survived by daughter, Shirley Sanders, and fiancé, Howard Millikan, of Asheboro, NC; son, Randy Freeman, and wife, Vickie, of Asheboro, NC; stepdaughters, Brenda Gail Gallimore, of Asheboro, Doris Jones, of Winston-Salem, NC; stepsons, Ronnie Kennedy, Steve Kennedy, C.W. Kennedy, all of Asheboro; sister, Mildred Freeman Burgess, of Franklinville, NC, Ivydale Freeman Moody, of Greensboro, NC; brother, Louis Freeman, and wife, Margaret, of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Connie Denise Sanders, Scottie Ray Sanders and wife, Jennifer; great grandchildren, Thaddeus Sanders, Nova Sanders; 12 step grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday, February 22, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 721 S. McCrary Street, Asheboro.
