Joseph William Dunn, 75, of Asheboro, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, March 20, 2024 at Salisbury National Cemetery.
Mr. Dunn was born on November 13, 1948, in Randolph County. He honorably served in the U.S. Army, serving terms in Vietnam after being drafted, and was stationed in Germany. While in the service, he earned several medals; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, NDSM (National Defense Service Medal), and Marksman with M-14 Rifle Award. He was formerly employed with Stout Trucking and worked in construction for several years. Mr. Dunn was a jack of all trades and loved being outside in his garden with his flowers. He collected coins, knives and guns, and loved fishing, hunting and searching for buried treasure such as war articles. He was a talented craftsman who made furniture and he even made his own canes for hiking. Mr. Dunn had two cats at his home and they were his pride and joy. He loved music including classic rock, and war songs.
Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by his father, William Waylon Dunn, who was a WWII veteran; sister, Becky Cox; granddaughter, Adalynn Dunn; niece, Angela Dorean Lindley.
He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Dunn and fiancé Kevin Oldham of Snow Camp; son, Jason Dunn and wife Amy of Snow Camp; mother, Martha Camp Williams; sisters, Mary McLendon, Alicia Lindley, Virginia Pugh; half brothers, Michael Welch, Danny Dunn; half sister, Anneda Kirk; grandchildren, Brianna Nichole Vincent, Jaiden Reneé Dunn, Ali Josie Dunn; and nieces and nephews, Cynthia Christopher, Robbie Lindley, Richard Lindley, Aaron McLendon, Gia Gaster, Timothy Gray, and Jospeh Gray.
