Joseph Abernethy

Joseph Guy "Joe" Abernethy, 76, of Asheboro, died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at his residence. Graveside services will be conducted 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro. Officiating will be Charles Marion. A native of Moore County, NC, Mr. Abernethy was born January 3, 1942, the son of the late Hilliard and Edna Guy Abernethy. He was a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and had worked as a commercial artist. He was also a musician, playing bass guitar with his brother in their band, "The Invaders." In addition to his parents, Mr. Abernethy was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Hilliard Abernethy. He is survived by two nephews, Thomas Lee Abernethy, Joseph Scott Abernethy; two great nephews, Dakota Lee Abernethy and wife, Korie, Jason Thomas Abernethy; two great-great nephews, Jackson Lee Abernethy, Isaiah Charles Abernethy; and sister-in-law, Martha M. Abernethy. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at Ridge Funeral Home.
