Mr. Johnny Harris Owens, 60, of 4582 Dunbar Bridge Road, Asheboro, NC, died Friday, April 23, 2010, at Randolph Hospital Inc. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. Harold Hammond officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow at Farmer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Asheboro Police Department Honor Guard and the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Rowan County, Mr. Owens was born September 11, 1949, the son of the late Gilmer Lee and Edna Harris Owens. He was a graduate of Farmer High School, class of 1967, and retired as a Master Sgt. with 20 years of service with the Asheboro Police Department. He was a member of the Freemasons Hanks Lodge #128 in Franklinville and was on the board of the Farmer volunteer fire department. He enjoyed bowling and was a supporter of the Special Olympics. In the early 80's, he was the proprietor of Farmer Station. Mr. Owens served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Amy Nelson Owens, of the home; daughter, Julie Owens Allman and husband, Justin, of Asheboro; son, Mark Henry Owens, of Asheboro; sister, Candace Owens Fraley, of Cleveland, NC; brother, Jim Owens and wife, Judi, of Asheboro; mother-in-law, Earlene Nelson, of Asheboro; four nieces and two nephews. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, and other times at the home of his daughter, 4606 Dunbar Bridge Road, Asheboro, NC.
