Johnny Newton Dawkins, Sr., 73, of Randleman, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at his home.
A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Billy Myers officiating. A private burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Johnny was born on November 14, 1949, in Randolph County to the late J.C. Dawkins and Betty Henley Dawkins. He started working at the age of 14 when he had a paper route, and was a hard worker until his retirement from Eveready in 1999. He enjoyed all kinds of racing, riding his motorcycle and participating in charity rides. Johnny had a great sense of humor and he loved listening to music, dancing, shagging, and bird watching. He especially loved his dog, "Jasper".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Rodney Voncannon.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Anita Burrow Dawkins of the home; daughter, Leslie Dawkins Hoover (Bradley); sons, Johnny Dawkins, Jr., Derek Dawkins (Jade); stepdaughter, Melanie Stewart (Travis); sister, Linda Dawkins; brothers, Michael Dawkins (Lee), Charles Dawkins (Paula), Randy Dawkins (Sandi); grandchildren, Taylor Estes (Travis), Johnny Dawkins, III, and (Courtney), Tyler Dawkins (Lauren), Lindsey Davis (Nathan), Hailey Brown, Haven Brown, Sadie Dawkins, Adaline Dawkins, Tori Waynick, Ayden Stewart, Austin Hoover; and eight great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service.
