Johnie Allen

Mr. Johnie Howard Allen, 100, of Seagrove, NC, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at his residence. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Whynot Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ron Terry officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Asheboro. A native of Montgomery County, NC, Mr. Allen was born October 3, 1911. He was the son of the late Daniel Thomas Allen and Jane Callicutt Allen. He was a charter member an trustee of Whynot Wesleyan Church, Previously he served as a Commissioner for the town of Seagrove. He was the owner/operator of Johnie Allen Sawmill for over 60 years and finally retired at age 91. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Allen and James "Jimmy" Harley Allen. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alta Brown Allen, of the home; daughters, Barbara Luther and husband, Robert, of Seagrove, NC, Betty Miller and husband, Gary, of Star, NC, Ann Moffitt and husband, Diffie, of Seagrove, NC; son, Tim Allen and wife, Pam, of Seagrove, NC; grandchildren, Sherry Allen and husband, John, of Greensboro, NC, Dana Shetzler and husband, Jim, of Kernersville, NC, Andrea Overfield and husband, Keith, of Raleigh, NC, Ty Miller and fiancée, Dawn Rosa, of Bluffton, SC; step-grandchildren, Bryan Cagle, of Cameron, NC, Buddy Fields and wife, Patty, of Rockingham, NC; 8 great grandchildren; and 2 step-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
