John Thomas Lane, 81, of Asheboro, died Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Carpenter, Dr. John Rogers and Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph County, Mr. Lane was born July 1, 1934 to the late Cecil and Treva Skeen Lane. He worked for the Miami Herald and later retired from Black & Decker. Mr. Lane was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the Asheboro Municipal Golf Course. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Byrd Lane and an infant daughter. Survivors include his daughters, Mirenda Lane of Asheboro, Jennifer Lane Wandzel of Charleston, SC; sister, Peggy Masteller of Raleigh; brothers, Gilbert Lane and wife, Phyllis of Asheboro, Joseph Lane and wife, Nancy of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Kian Nicholas Wandzel, Cameron Lane Wandzel, Anna Caroline Wandzel and Lauren Lane Wall;,and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4615 Dundas Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407.
