John Parsons "J.P." Kearns, 85, of Asheboro, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Alpine Health and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
Per J.P.'s request, there are no services scheduled.
J.P. was born on November 14, 1939, in Montgomery County; the family thinks, but they are sure he was born in a cabbage patch. He was the son of the late Clyde Coppage Kearns and Susie Elizabeth Parsons Kearns. He honorably served in the United States Army. J.P. had a quirky and stubborn personality, with a corny and dry sense of humor to boot. He would have said such corny sayings like "Make sure you eat that apple the right side up", and would play pranks on the family like playing opossum at the nursing home, pretending to be sleep and smiling at you when he got caught. J.P. enjoyed tinkering with small engines and "other things". J.P. cared for his family by being the family weather man, calling everyone up a couple of days ahead of time to let you know it was still gonna rain and that you need to be prepared. He would also take trips up to Fancy Gap and bringing everyone in the family a pallet of fruits and vegetables. He also enjoyed hot peppers and could eat them one after another. He always had the saying that he's "ready to get out of here", and now he finally is.
In addition to his parents, J.P. was preceded in death by his son, Bryan Keith Kearns; brothers, Raeford Eugene Kearns, Lacy Cary Kearns; and sister, Patsy Elizabeth Kearns.
He is survived by his former wife, Sylvia Hartsell Kearns; daughter, Alicia Kearns Garner (Kenny); son, John Arthur Kearns; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Burch Kearns; sisters, Sarah Blanche Kearns Dunn, Betty Jean Kearns Bingham, Barbara Ann Kearns Wilson (Jerry); brothers, Lynn Coppage Kearns (Diane), James "Jimmy" LaMarr Kearns, Donald Larry Kearns; grandchildren, Ashley Gaddy (James), Jordann Davis (Christopher), Kendall Garner (Emily), Bryan Michael Kearns, Katie Ray (Travis), LeAnn Phillips (Bradford), Drew Glenn; great grandchildren, Kerrianne Davis, Carson Gaddy, Kaden Gaddy, Tristen Gaddy, Landon Whitaker, and Jaelyn Bain.
Memorials, condolences, and cards, may be sent to the home of Alicia Garner, 2960 Creekridge Drive, Asheboro, NC 27205.
