John Milton Holtzclaw, III, 62, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. John was born June 21, 1953 in Williamson, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his mother Hazel Aaragon, his sisters Mary, and Brenda, and his brothers Paul and Pat. John is survived by his wife Mary Holtzclaw of Asheboro; son Bryan Holtzclaw of Asheboro; his daughter Helen Holtzclaw Davis, her husband Shane Davis, and granddaughter Abigail Davis of Mountain Top, PA; sisters Liza King of Griffin, GA and Gladys Bailie of Elk City, ID; brothers Joe Aaragon and Charles Whitaker of Harpster, ID; mother-in-law Shirley Morgan of Asheboro; and many nieces and nephews. John was a proud veteran. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army. He had a strong work ethic and worked hard his entire life to provide for his family. He loved to travel, especially to the mountains. He spent most of his life working in manufacturing, but he also spent time in his earlier years working on oil rigs in Texas and even mining for gold in Idaho. John was a wonderful husband and father and an amazing Papaw to his granddaughter Abby. They loved to spend time together whenever possible and would spend hours on the phone talking and telling one another jokes. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 3rd at 2:00 at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. John will be buried at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
