John J. Dixon, 88, of Asheboro, died Friday, November 3, 2017 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 6, 2017, at Panther Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Huttleston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by The Randolph County Honor Guard. Born October 27, 1929 in Chatham County, Mr. Dixon was the son of the late Harvey and Annie Dixon. He was a member of Panther Creek Baptist Church and a former Deacon. Mr. Dixon served in the US Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Annie Mae Beane. Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife of 63 years, Melita Cooper Dixon; son, Ricky J. Dixon (Robin) of Asheboro; grandchildren, Justin Dixon (Ashley) and Keri Dixon (Makana); great-grandchildren, Joshua, Holly, Brianne and David. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mr. Dixon's son.
