Mr. Joseph Robert Cox, 89, of Asheboro, NC, went home to be with our Lord Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, April 21, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home with Bishop J. Harold Williams and Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro. A native of Guilford County, NC, Mr. Cox was born September 16, 1924. He was the son of the late Charles Vance Cox and Frances Cleveland Thomas Cox. Mr. Cox served in the US Army as an army engineer during World War II, stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Joe retired as the founder of The Triad Propane and former commander of American Legion post 45. He was the owner of Green Acres Golf Course. Mr. Cox attended First Baptist Church, Asheboro. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 67 years, Clara P. Cox, of the home; daughter, Linda Cox Hipps, and husband, Jon, of High Point, NC; son, Herbert C. Cox, and wife, Dawn, of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Scott Campbell, and wife, Cindy, Melanie Witek, and husband, Steve, Brandon Cox, and wife, Allison, John Bremer, Lauren Watkins, and husband, Matt, Leslee Hipps; sister in-law, Ola Peterson, of Hampton, VA; twelve great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and best friend Larry Embler. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm Monday, April 21, 2014, at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Randolph Co., P.O.
