Joann Shaw Davidson

August 2, 1939 — March 25, 2024

JoAnn Shaw Davidson age 84, of Asheboro passed away on March 25, 2024 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, March, 29, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Kidd and Pastor Wyatt Hoogkamp officiating. Burial follow at Randolph Memorial Park.

JoAnn was born August 2, 1939 in Montgomery County to James Pinkney & Lizzie Lee Ritter Shaw. She was raised in Troy, North Carolina, and graduated from Troy High School in 1957. JoAnn’s family moved to Asheboro and she soon met and married Darrell Davidson on October 15, 1961. JoAnn was a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her daughter Tammy and son Tommy.

In 1974, JoAnn entered the tax and accounting field as the office manager for one of her best friends, Margaret Upton Hayes. Joann officially retired from Upton Accounting, Inc. in 2020 after 46 years. JoAnn enjoyed getting to know multiple generations of her tax clients and becoming a friend to each of them.

JoAnn was widowed in 1989 when Darrell passed away unexpectedly at age 49, and even through this tough time she leaned heavily on the Lord and was a rock of strength for her family.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she always had time for a cup of coffee and a listening ear. The greatest joy of her life was found in her grandchildren Anna and Luke and great-grandchildren Brooks and Briggs, of whom she was so proud.

JoAnn enjoyed beautiful flowers and keeping her yard immaculate, she loved gospel music, was an awesome cook, and made the best cakes. She was always fashionable and in style, but most of all she had a caring heart and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.

She had been a former member of Quaker Heights Friends Meeting and a member of Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell Lee Davidson, her father and mother-in-law, Farrell & Esther Allred Davidson, her sister Rita Kay Shaw Perkins, niece Rhonda Mintz, special lifelong friends Brenda Loggains Harrelson and Margaret Upton Hayes.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Tammy Renee Davidson; son Thomas Darrell Davidson and wife Annessa; granddaughter Anna Lee Davidson Fountain and husband Jared; grandson Luke Thomas Davidson; great-grandsons Brooks Austin Fountain and Briggs Alan Fountain; sister Deborah Shaw Sanders; brother and sister in-law Bill & Pennie Davidson; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 28, 2024, and other times at her home.

Memorials may be made to Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, 1928 North Fayetteville, Asheboro, NC 27203; or Randolph SPCA, 300 W. Bailey Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
