Jim Burgess

Mr. James Ira "Jim" Burgess, 80, of Greensboro, NC, died Monday, February 27, 2012, at his residence. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Kees officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro. Full military honors will be provided. A native of Harnett County, NC, Mr. Burgess was born August 1, 1931. He was the son of the late L. F. Burgess and Blanche Smith Burgess. He was retired as Chief Electrical Inspector for the City of Greensboro and later as the owner of Jim Burgess Electric. He served in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict and was an active member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary B. Womble and Jean B. Baird, and grandson, Timothy Steven Burgess. Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife, Rebecca Murray Burgess, of the home; sons, Greg Burgess, Eric Burgess and wife, Lisa, all of Greensboro, NC; brothers, Sonny Burgess, of Linden, NC, Wayne Burgess and wife, Lib, of Seven Lakes, NC; sister, Margie Jacobs and husband, James, of Laurinburg, NC; grandchildren, Brandon Burgess, of Greensboro, NC, Jamie Burgess and wife, Ashley, of Kernersville, NC, Jordan Burgess, of Greensboro, NC, Christian Burgess, of Greensboro, NC; aunt, Madean Greene, of Cameron, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church and other times at the home.
