Jewel Brown Lucas, 94, of Asheboro, died Thursday, November 28, 2019, at High Point Medical Center in High Point. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2019, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Daniel Shuskey, Rev. Jeff Garner and Rev. Darrell Rabon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Randolph County, NC on September 30, 1925, Mrs. Lucas was the daughter of the late Edwin Jesse Brown and Nettie Jane Newsom Brown. She was a homemaker and had volunteered at Randolph Hospital and at the Randolph County Senior Adults Salt Box. Mrs. Lucas was a member of Sawyersville Wesleyan Church for 65 years, and she was a former member of the choir there. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Joe" Lucas, and five siblings. Surviving are her daughters, Shirley Taylor (Russ) of Asheboro, Wanda Blanton (Larry) of Asheboro, Susie James (Terry) of Asheboro; sons, Micheal Lucas (Emily) of Goldsboro, Tommy Lucas of Asheboro; sisters, Pearl Goins (Elmer) of Asheboro, Gladys Nance of Asheboro; brothers, Raiford Brown of Asheboro, Cline Brown (Nancy) of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Amy DeVaughn (Darrin), John Lucas (Lisa), Lynette Pate (Rusty), Matthew Taylor (Allison), Aaron Beane (Andrea), Luke Beane (Autumn), Chris James, Chad James (Miranda); and 20 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church from 1:45 - 2:45 p.m., Sunday, prior to the service.
