Jessie P. Hammond

Rev. Jessie Perlo Hammond, 91, of Asheboro, NC, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at Randolph Hospital. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Covenant Christian Church with Minister Rhon Hammond officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Asheboro. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Union County, NC, Rev. Hammond was born February 28, 1921. He was the son of the late James Matthew Hammond and Dezzie Marie Blakney Hammond. Rev. Hammond served in the US Army during World War II and had worked as an insurance agent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Teccie Lilly Hammond. Rev. Hammond is survived by his daughters, Bettye Manuel and husband, John, of Greensboro, NC, Ann Goldston and husband, Tony, of Asheboro, NC; son, Lash Hammond and wife, Lena, of Asheboro, NC; sister, Edna Clark, of New York, NY; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Monday, December 3, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home and other times and the home his daughter, Ann Goldston.
