Jerry Wayne Southard, age 67, of Asheboro, peacefully passed away at his residence on Sunday, February 23, 2025.
Born on November 19, 1957, in Randolph County, NC, Jerry was the beloved son of the late J.W. and Verda Cagle Southard. He embarked on an impressive 53-year journey in the restaurant industry, starting at the young age of 14 at Hop's BBQ. His dedication and hard work led him to become the manager in 1981, and he later took great pride in owning the establishment.
A devoted family man, Jerry was a passionate UNC Tarheel fan who cherished every moment spent at sporting events for his sons and grandsons. He found immense joy in his time at Badin Lake and North Myrtle Beach, where he created countless treasured memories with his family.
As a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church, Jerry served as a deacon for over 40 of the 45 years he attended, exemplifying the values of service, love, and dedication to his community.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kimberly Jeanette Southard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Lila Southard; his sons, Derrick Southard and Jeremy Southard (Amber); his sisters, Patti Southard, Kathy Cooper (Perry), and Denise Schoenberger (Richard); his cherished “Grammy” Ann Cox; his adored grandchildren, Dawson and Kinnon Southard; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his "granddog," Alvin Southard, and his cat, Fluffy.
Jerry held a special place in his heart for his niece Ashley Ellis and nephew Josh White, whom he treated as if they were his own.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Ridge Funeral Home.
