Jerry D. Trotter

Jerry Don Trotter, Sr., 75, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2015, at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Clay Showalter and Leverette Strider officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born July 16, 1940, Mr. Trotter was a native of Randolph County. He was a graduate of Farmer High School where he played basketball and several other sports. He was all county in basketball and went on to play for High Point College. Mr. Trotter was NC Deputy Insurance Commissioner for 10 years and worked as a truck driver and a licensed auctioneer. He also had worked for the Asheboro City Fire Department. Mr. Trotter was a member of Seagrove United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday school, was a lay speaker and Sunday school superintendent. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his father, William Ashley Trotter. He is survived by his wife, Carol Trotter of the home; daughters, Mandy Hanes (Freddie) of Asheboro, Donia Smith (Scott) of Asheboro; son, Jerry "Jay" Don Trotter, Jr. (Kristy) of Asheboro; mother, Zeola Gallimore Trotter of Farmer; sisters, Linda Younts (Paul) of Manning, SC, Ellen Spencer (Carlee) of Farmer; grandchildren, Hillary Hill, Erin Greene, Ethan Greene, Carla Hulin, Curtis Smith, Clint Smith and Ashlynn Trotter; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
