Jerry Wayne Barker

Jerry Wayne Barker, 69, of Asheboro, died Friday, September 9, 2016 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2016, at West Asheboro Church of God, Asheboro, with Rev. Matt Gunter officiating. A private burial will be held at the Dobson City Cemetery. Mr. Barker was a native of Surry Co, NC. He was the owner and operator of Barker Furniture and a pastor at the Open Arms Church of God. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam. He loved to ride motorcycles and spend time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was known for his great sense of humor. Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his father, Porter Frank Barker, and brother, Larry Barker. Survivors include his wife, Lori Barker, of the home; sons, Justin Shane Barker and wife, Sherryl, Jason Wayne Barker, Jarrod Lane Barker, all of Asheboro; mother, Ernestine VanOpstal; sister, Lucy Felts, of Cana, VA; grandchildren, Jamyn Barker, Daniel Botchway, and Katherine Botchway. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, at West Asheboro Church of God, Asheboro.
