He was employed with RLB Trucking in Ramseur, where Robert Baldwin would always take care of John while he was coming and going. All of John's career his CB handle was "Lumpy." In his free time, John enjoyed hanging at the house with his wife Michelle and his K-9 companion "Pugsley." He loved fishing, hunting, a good yard sale, and traveling with his family and friends. John attended Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Asheboro.

Williams of Asheboro, son Jeffery Maness (Lexie) of Asheboro, daughter Summer Maness (Brandon) of the home, sister Tina Seal (David) of Asheboro, nieces Kristin and Victoria Seal, nephews Rubic la Rangel, Rubin Rangel, Kade Bernal, and Scotty Seal. Stepbrother Brandon Duncan (Jamie) and their kids of Ramseur, adopted family Derek Hooker (Esther) and their kids and grandkids of Asheboro, his in-laws, Ronnie and Cindy McNeill of Franklinville.
