Jean Swiggett

July 10, 1927 — May 3, 2016

Jean Davis Swiggett, 88, of Randleman, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Cedar Square Friends Meeting with Pastor Mike Butler and Rev. Ben Hurley officiating. Burial will be in the meeting cemetery. Born July 10, 1927 in Randolph County, Mrs. Swiggett was the daughter of the late Branson and Veva Davis. She graduated from Trinity High School in 1944 and from High Point College in 1948. Mrs. Swiggett was a birthright Quaker. She was a lifelong member of Cedar Square Friends Meeting, where she held many positions, and taught Sunday School for over 60 years. She was a faithful participant in the NC Yearly Meeting of Friends. Mrs. Swiggett taught in the Randolph County School system from 1948-1994, she was a librarian, beta club sponsor, and dean of girls for 20 years. Mrs. Swiggett co-authored the book "The Earth Abideth Forever." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, R.S. "Sonny" Davis; and niece, Ellen Cashatt. Mrs. Swiggett is survived by her daughter, Ann S. Turner and husband, James of Randleman; son, Timothy Swiggett of the home; sisters, Martha Modlin of Archdale and Doris Cashatt of Randleman; sisters-in-law, Gwen Davis of Randleman, Shirley Clodfelter of Archdale; grandchildren, Craig Turner and wife, Deeon, of Sophia, Melissa T. Johnson of Sophia, Joseph Swiggett of Okinawa, Japan; and great-grandchildren, Ben Johnson and wife, Savannah, Matthew Turner, Samuel Johnson, Jacob Turner and Henry Johnson. The family will receive friends following the service in the meeting fellowship hall and other times at the home of James and Ann Turner. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cedar Square Friends Meeting, 7546 Harlow Rd., Archdale,NC 27263.
