J.D. Allen

John Duncan "J. D." Allen, 93, of Asheboro, dear father, grandfather, brother and friend, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Randolph Health in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2018, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Richard Crider, Dr. D. Keith Hudson and Rev. John Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park. Born June 9, 1924 in Montgomery County, J.D. was the son of the late Solomon Cleveland Allen and Etter Luella Monroe Allen. He had a long career with Klopman/Burlington Mills. J.D. loved the outdoors and grew lush vegetable gardens, which he shared with family, neighbors and friends. As a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church he was a frequent volunteer. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage and workshop repairing garden equipment and most anything else. J.D. loved being outdoors with his various dogs over the years, especially Sam, who learned how to bring the newspaper to the door daily and to pick up trash left by the highway. J.D. was an incredible man and loving father. We will all surely miss him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Vaughn Corbett Allen; sisters, Mae Williams, Ruth Williamson and Collen Boroughs. Survivors include his sons and their spouses, Doyle and Dianne Allen, Terry and Debbie Allen and Van and Debbie Allen; grandchildren, Natalie Demby, Cara Long, Kellie Brown, John Allen, Devan Williams, Shanna Phillips; great-grandchildren, Carter, Everett, and Banks Demby; Dayla, Bailey, and Regan Brown; Cameron Long; Kendall and Abigayle Williams; and Asher and Adrielle Allen. J.D. is also survived by his sisters, Inez Blake, Louise Giles, and Martha Morgan. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Friday at Ridge Funeral Home, prior to the service.
