John Burrell "J.B." Allen, Jr., 94, of Asheboro, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 2, 2017, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with military honors presented by The Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph County, Mr. Allen was born June 30, 1922, the son of the late John and Lou Allen. He was a 1939 graduate of Farmer High School, an Army Veteran of World War II and a 1947 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, Nashville, TN. Mr. Allen was employed at Farlow Funeral Home in Asheboro for several years and Burlington Industries for 35 years. He was a part-time associate at Ridge Funeral Home for 18 years. Mr. Allen was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1949, where he served as Usher Chairman and was a member of the D.W. Holt Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Max Allen. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Iris Cook Allen of the home; daughter, Jill Spillane and husband, Don of Cary, NC; son, John B. Allen, III of Pinehurst; brother, David Allen and wife, Irene of Asheboro; grandchildren, Caitlin Bailey (Brian), Carolina Fowler, Sara Lane (Christopher) , Samantha Spillane; and great-grandchildren, Eliza Lane and Ballard Lane. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, prior to the service. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Ridge Funeral Home and other times at the home.
