Jane Cheek

Jane Elizabeth Hughes Cheek, 86, of Asheboro, NC, died Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2026, at Farmer Baptist Church Cemetery, 4566 Dunbar Bridge Road, Asheboro, with Rev. Brian Faircloth officiating.

Born April 3, 1940, in Randolph Co., NC, Mrs. Cheek was the daughter of the late Henry and Annie Varner Hughes. She was a member of Amity Hill Baptist Church and had worked at Sew Special. She enjoyed traveling to the mountains and the beach, but thing she loved most was being a grandma, great grandma, and great-great grandma.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cheek was preceded in death by her daughter, Clara Jean Stout; great granddaughter, Angel Leach; great grandson, Austin Tyler Cheek; brothers, Walter Hughes, Eugene Hughes, Hubert Hughes, Robert Hughes, Charlie Hughes; sisters, Carrie Louise Hughes, Lucy Evelyn Hughes, and Thelma Smith.

Survivors include Mrs. Cheek's daughter, Kathy Cheek of Lexington; brother, Don Hughes of Seagrove; grandchildren, Rodney Freeman (Tiffany), who were also her primary caregivers, Randy Freeman, Carrie Cheek, Chris Cheek (Joy), Timothy Rutledge (Amanda), Angela Leach; great grandchildren, Ashley Saunders, Destynee Hussey, Rodney Freeman, Jr., Ricky Freeman, Josh Cheek, Kaitlyn Cheek, Mason Cheek, Elizabeth Rutledge, Alex Rutledge, Rainey Rutledge, Lilly Rutledge, Olivia Rutledge, Lexie Rutledge, Gracie Freedle, Avery Freeman, Cooper Freeman, Granger Freeman; great-great grandchildren, Adaly Saunders, Wyatt Saunders, Clayton Cheek, and Magnolia Cheek.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Ridge Funeral Home, 908 Albemarle Road, Asheboro, NC, and other times at the home.
