James E. Spivey

James Enoch Spivey, 76, of Sophia, NC, died Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital in Greensboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jon Shook and Charles Reeder officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph Co., NC, Mr. Spivey was born May 26, 1943, the son of the late Pervis and Ruth Virginia Carter Spivey. He was a graduate of Asheboro High School, class of 1962, and received an Associates Degree from Randolph Community College. Mr. Spivey retired from the US Navy as a C.P.O. after 20 years of service which he loved and would always have a story about his time. Jim was always apart of the family, he enjoyed family dinners, celebrating everyone's birthdays, and taking trips to Alaska and the Grand Canyon. He also loved vacationing at the beach with the family. He was the fun and joy of the trips. His nephews Kevin and Chad loved him and he loved them back. He enjoyed trips to Tucson, visiting his family, especially enjoyed and loved his grandkids, Jacob and Megan. He loved his sisters, and his many nieces and nephews. He will forever be missed by all who love him. Jim was a self taught guitar player, he and his neighbor had a building between their houses where they played music together. The people of Waffle House would always have his coffee ready when they seen him arrive. He had the personality where the people he met became his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ruth Spivey Jordan. Mr. Spivey is survived by his sons, Keith Spivey and wife Tammy of Tucson, AZ, Brian Spivey, of Asheboro; sisters, Patsy Ann Spivey Yow and husband Leon, of Asheboro, Bertie Jane Spivey Hunt and husband Darrell of Asheboro; brother-in-law, David Jordan of Asheboro; grandchildren, Jacob Spivey, Megan Spivey; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 20, prior to the service and other times at the home of Jane and Darrell Hunt.
