James "Jim" Ray Smith, 73, of Randleman, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, January 15, 2021. A private graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Level Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery, Randleman, with Rev. Wayne Eller officiating. Military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Jim was born on August 23, 1947, in Guilford County to that late Neal Easley Smith and Esther Wall Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim played softball and enjoyed fishing. Jim was known to always be able to make you laugh. He was the best "Daddy" and he loved his family. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Helen Vickory Smith; and brother, Dwight Smith. Surviving are his daughters, Nancy Hinshaw and husband Brandon, Terri Coleman; sons, Michael Smith, Marty Joyce and wife Lynda, Karl Joyce and wife Jill; sister, Eva "Pat" Mills; brother, Neal Smith; grandchildren, Melissa Sawyer and husband Scott, Rebecca Shives, Derek Joyce and wife Christina, Daniel Joyce, Jason Monnett; great grandchildren, Gabriella Joyce, Ava Joyce, Austin Sawyer, Andy Sawyer, Kylie Joyce, and Jackson Joyce. He is also survived by his pets, including his best buddy, Emma Sue, Molly, Easley and horse, Mr. Texas Bang Up. Mr. Smith will lie in state from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Ridge Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203.
