James Powell

James Lee Powell, 69, of Denton, died Friday, June 8, 2018 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Charles Reeder officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Denton. Born July 7, 1948 in South Carolina, Mr. Powell was the son of the late Lawrence and Martha Jane Powell. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, William Harrison Byrd, who raised him after his father's death. Mr. Powell worked in auto body repair for 50 years and was owner/operator of Jackson Creek Body Shop for 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his grandbabies. Survivors include his sons, Brent Powell and wife, Karen, Brian Powell and wife, Jamie, all of Denton; brothers, Troy Powell and wife, Wilo Dene of New Hope, Earl Powell and wife, Jimmie of Thomasville; stepbrother, Wayne Shipton of High Rock Lake; grandchildren, Blaine Powell, Marisa Powell and Trevor Powell. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home, prior to the service, and other times at the home of Brent and Karen Powell.
