James Mitchell Williamson, Sr., 68, of Asheboro, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 21, 2023, at New Center Christian Church, where he was an active member and a former deacon. Pastor Neil Poole, Pastor Travis Bryson and Pastor Mike Holyfield will be officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Randolph County on June 20, 1955, Mr. Williamson was the son of the late James and Mary Evelyn Kennedy Williamson. He was a 1973 graduate of Northmoore High School, had worked for Ramtex for 33 years and later retired from the North Carolina D.O.T. Mr. Williamson was a loving and kind man who always made sure everyone's needs were met. He was very dedicated to his family and especially his grandchildren, the pride and joy of his life. He was a former member of Victory Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He was always ready to share the word of God with anyone, even during his time at Duke University Hospital.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Williamson was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Williamson Luck.
Mr. Williamson is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Williamson of the home; daughter, Janet Poole and husband David of Asheboro; son, James Williamson of Seagrove; grandchildren, Landon Poole and fiancée Chelsey of Asheboro, Callie Poole of Asheboro; niece and nephews, Shannon Batten, Austin Hussey, Logan Batten; and several special family members including additional nieces and nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Ridge Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Duke University Hospital, the lung transplant team, and all of the doctors and nurses for their exceptional care that they provided. A heartfelt thank you would like to be extended to the family of the donor for their true gift of love.
