James Alton Maness, Sr., 90, of 664 Mack Road, Asheboro, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at West Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Outen and the Rev. Lee Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born on December 10, 1919, in Montgomery County, Mr. Maness was the son of the late Asa and Nora Maness. He attended Seagrove School and had worked at Klopman Mills and Klaussner Furniture. He was a member of West Chapel United Methodist Church, served as trustee, and he was a Sunday School teacher for the Men's Adult Class for 45 years. Mr. Maness was in the US Army during World War II and served in Korea and the Phillipines. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Harold Dean Poole; granddaughters, Kim Robbins and Lisa Curl; sisters, Eva Luck and Gladys Maness; brothers, Denny Maness and Otis Maness; half brothers, Donald Maness and Glenn Maness. Surviving are his wife, Bernice Poole Maness, of the home, son, James "Butch"� Alton Maness, Jr. and wife, Mamie, of Asheboro; daughter, Renda Morris and husband, Eddie, of Asheboro; brother, Bobby Maness and wife, Lena, of Ramseur; half sisters, Kathy Cox, of Bennett, Betty Owens, of Robbins; grandchildren, Ronnie Poole and wife, Debbie, of Cheraw, Greg Poole, Barry Poole, both of Cheraw, Kathy McCoy and husband, Charles, of Randleman, Kasey Mumbro and husband, Ricky, of Little Elm, TX, Chasity Johnson, of Norwood, Amanda Morris, of Savannah, GA, Gina Hill and husband, Duane, of Asheboro, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. The family will receive friends at Ridge Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday, July 26, 2010, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to West Chapel U.M.C., 2539 S.
