Mr. James Thomas Henson, 88, formerly of Asheboro, NC, died Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Universal Health Care in Ramseur. A graveside service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Giles Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tom Boyd officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Henson was born May 21, 1924. He was the son of the late James Grady Henson and Mamie Overman Henson. He had worked for RC Cola Company in Columbus, GA, and, after moving to Asheboro, he worked for Millikan Sausage and later in construction. He enjoyed watching all sports. In addition to his parents, Mr. Henson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hinshaw Boyd Henson, and his sons, James Thomas Henson, Jr., and Phillip Andrew Henson, Sr. Mr. Henson served in the US Army during World War II where he was a sergeant. Mr. Henson is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Batchelor and husband, Larry, of Martinez, GA; stepson, Jimmy Boyd and wife, Brenda, of Asheboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Doris Henson, of Randleman, NC; sister, Marzelle Strider, of Asheboro, NC; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at Ridge Funeral Home.
