James R. Ferguson, Jr. died unexpectedly on Friday, April 3 in Asheboro. He was born on August 29, 1956 in Moore County, NC, and grew up there and in Yadkin County. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth Carol Nix Parker Ferguson and James R. Ferguson Sr. He is survived by his wife, Jana Jones Ferguson; son, Christopher Jones; and daughter, Talia Ruth Ferguson, all of Goldsboro; his sisters, Carol Parker Freeman of Winston-Salem and Cindi Ferguson Cabrera of Carthage, NC, and her husband, Eriberto; his nieces, Parker Freeman of Winston-Salem and Cinnamon Black of Raleigh, and her husband Rudy; and his nephew, Seth Williams of Charlotte and his wife, Brooke; two great-nieces, Kaitlyn and Emily Williams of Charlotte; his West Coast family: daughters Rebekah Denise Wallis of Lancaster, CA and Deborah Grace Horn of Madras, OR and her husband, Charlie; son Timothy James Wallis of Beaverton, OR and his wife, Destiny; and four grandchildren, Julia, Heather, and Angela Horn of Madras, OR, and Micah Wallis of Beaverton, OR. Jim graduated from Forbush High School and attended Campbell College. He served in the United States Navy with the nuclear submarine fleet, and worked for many years in the nuclear energy field. He had currently been working as a consultant in the field of medical devices. A generous heart and an adventurous spirit, Jim loved to travel. He especially cherished his trips to Israel, where he worked on archeological digs and visited the Western Wall. He loved intense discussions about philosophy and theology; he was a seeker of knowledge of all sorts. He lived life to the fullest, had a unique sense of humor, and considered time with his family a gift. A graveside service will be conducted by Rabbi Andrew Ettin at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1120 Old Cedar Falls Rd., Asheboro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Talia Ruth Ferguson Scholarship Fund at SunTrust Bank, Special Handling, PO Box 27572, Richmond, VA 23261.
