James Edmond Barnes, 84, of Asheboro, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Randolph Health in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, June 7, 2019, at Balfour Baptist Church, Asheboro, with Rev. Gary Mason and Dr. Chuck Brawley officiating. Interment will be private at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Born on January 11, 1935, in Jackson County, NC, Mr. Barnes was the son of William Edmond Barnes and Viola Allen McDonald Barnes. He was retired from Stickley Furniture. He was a member of Balfour Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Mr. Barnes served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Most importantly he loved his Lord and his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, R. B. McDonald, Leslie McDonald, Veldee Barnes, Bill Barnes; sisters, Nell McDonald Bryson, Ruby McDonald Woods, Leona Barnes McDonald, Alma Barnes Roper, and Faye Barnes Stewart. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Marie Denton Barnes; children, Becky Brawley and husband Dr. Chuck Brawley, Diane Maier and husband Tom Maier, Janet Elmore and husband Tim Elmore, Teresa Cagle and husband Harvey Cagle, Jennifer Barnes; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O.
