Jack Kenan Marsh, 85, of Asheboro, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at Randolph Health in Asheboro.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2024, at Science Hill Friends Meeting, Asheboro, with Rev. Tim Pheagin officiating. Burial will follow in the meeting cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
A longtime resident of Asheboro, NC, Mr. Marsh was born December 5, 1938, the son of the late James and Ruby Kenan Marsh. He had graduated from Farmer High School and attended Gardner-Webb University.
Mr. Marsh retired as a petty officer from the US Coast Guard after serving for 12 years. While aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eastwind, he sailed completely around the world. The highlight of his service career was on Operation: Deep Freeze 67' which sailed from Boston to Antarctica. The Eastwind rescued several cargo ships agrounded by ice and supplied other ships with fresh water and fuel.
He had worked in sales for several different industries. He enjoyed panning for gold and was a good cook. Being outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting was his passion. He was a member of Science Hill Friends Meeting and attended until his health made it too difficult.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Marsh was preceded by his sister, Joan Marsh Williams McKinney.
Survivors include his sons, David Marsh (Cindy) of Auburn, NH, Jeff Marsh (Kimberly) of Westminster, MA; sister, Patricia Apple Cook of Graham; grandchildren, Rachel Marsh, Timothy Marsh, both of MA; Erin Marsh, Thomas Marsh, Lauren Marsh, Ashley Marsh, all of NH; numerous nieces and nephews; longtime loving friend and family caregiver, Sharon McNeill of Asheboro; and his loving companion, "Shorty."
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Ridge Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Asheboro.
