J. T. Smith

J.T. Smith, 81, of Asheboro, died Monday, February 12, 2018 at Randolph Health and Rehabilitation Center in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bryant Madren and Rev. Dallas Street, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Born in Dillion, SC on June 18, 1936, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Hickman and Ethel Cook Smith. He worked at Dixie Furniture, Harrelson Rubber and later retired from Phillip Brothers Country Ham. He had attended Browers Wesleyan Church and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed camping and traveling to the beach. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Henderson Smith; and his sisters, Weiness Smith and Annie Mae Saunders. Surviving are his sons, Ricky Smith and Tim Smith both of Asheboro; sisters, Ethel Jane Elliott of Nichols, SC, Janie Jones and husband, Milton of Mulberry, FL, Ella Jacobs and husband, James E. of Asheboro; brothers, Theo Smith of Mebane, Bill Smith and wife, Lois, of Asheboro, Charlie Smith and wife, Joyce of Randleman; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm, Wednesday, prior to the funeral service and other times at the home of his brother, Bill Smith, 4869 Reeder Road, Asheboro.
