Isaac Farlow passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at home. The Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday August 20, 2016 at 2pm at the Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro NC. A private (Family Only) Burial service will be later that day in Sophia NC. Isaac was born on January 10, 1942 in Sophia, NC to Willard & Sarah Mae Farlow. Family elders have said it was 2 below zero in Sophia that morning. Like many Randolph County natives at that time, he was born at home in Sophia, and delivered with the assistance of a house call from Doctor Bulla. Isaac's young life was full of hard work on the farm. When he was 8 years old, one of their hogs had a litter that had a weak runt. Grandpa Willard said the runt wasn't going to make it, but young Isaac said let me take care of it. Grandpa Willard reluctantly said ok, and with Isaac's special care the "Runt" became a healthy pig. Isaac sold the pig for ten dollars, which he bought a Red Flyer Wagon at the Western Auto Store in Randleman, NC. It has been said Grandpa Willard made sure young Isaac put it to good use on the farm hauling watermelons and cantaloupes from the garden. Isaac had many fond memories of playing, fishing, and swimming with his brother and all his cousins at the Old Foundry Dam on Caraway Creek (A popular swimming hole in the Flint Hill Area during that time). He started school when he was five at New Market Elementary School, and graduated from Randleman High School in 1959. He was very proud of his membership and achievements with the FFA while in High School. After High School, he started a career in the Furniture Industry, and quickly worked his way to becoming a Qualified Upholsterer. In 1964 Isaac enlisted into the NC Army National Guard and served six years. After his service commitment, Isaac was known as an Expert Upholsterer until his retirement in 2003. For many years he was appointed to build (Upholster) Furniture Samples for the High Point Furniture Market. On October 17, 1964 Isaac married Vickie Jean Owens. With great joy they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on October 17, 2014 in Maggie Valley, NC with family. Maggie Valley being the location of their honeymoon fifty years prior. Isaac is well known in the local area for carrying on the family tradition of making Molasses the Old Fashion Way. A tradition his Grandpa Ellis & Grandma Lou Farlow started early in the 20th Century. The Family Molasses Mill was a primary source of sugar for many local folks during the hard times of the Great Depression. Isaac and his brother Joel, inherited the knack for growing excellent watermelons & cantaloupes from their Dad, Willard Farlow. Isaac had a great passion for the outdoors. He loved farming, bee keeping, hunting, fishing, and long walks on beautiful Sunday afternoons. He really enjoyed teaching his Grandkids how to make "Hickory Whistles" in early spring each year. Isaac is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vickie Owens Farlow of Sophia NC; son, Jeffrey Isaac Farlow (Marie) of Sophia NC; two daughters, Cathy Coggins of Asheboro NC, and Tonya Ferguson of Stoneville NC; eleven grandchildren, Trey Coggins of Seagrove NC, Zachary Coggins of Asheboro NC, Seth Ferguson of Washington DC, Ashley Farlow of Astoria NY, Macy Ferguson of Dartmouth NH, Amber Farlow of Sophia NC, Dalton Ferguson of Marshall University WV, Victoria Coggins of Asheboro NC, Ian Coggins of Asheboro NC, Abigail Farlow of Sophia NC, and Tessa Mae Ferguson of Stoneville NC; three sisters, Sarah Kennerly of Bloomington IL, Eunice Segers of Sophia NC, Lois Saunders (Morris) of Hertford NC; one brother, Joel Farlow (Patricia) of Sophia NC. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Sarah Mae Farlow; and two of his brother-in-law's, John Kennerly, and Donald Segers. Visitation with family is scheduled for Friday August 19, 2016 from 6-8pm at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro NC. The entire family wishes to thank all the Church Family members, and dear friends for the tremendous loving support.
